TROUBLE SHOOTING TIPS ===================== Problem: "Call to Undefined dynalink" error message ---------------------------------------------------- Microsoft Video For Windows has not been installed properly. To re-install, go into File Manager, insert Maabus CD 1, and locate the directory called VFW11d. In this directory, there should be a file called "setup.exe". Double-click on this file to install the Video For Windows driver, and run the game as usual, once the installation is complete. If the error message still persists, do a search on your C:\ drive for the file "msvideo.dll": In file manager, go to FILE and then SEARCH; In the "Search For" field, enter "msvideo.dll" In the "Start From" field, enter "c:\" Ensure that the "Search All Subdirectories" box is X'ed Click on OK There should only be one msvideo.dll file on your hard drive, and it should be located in the c:\Windows\System directory, and dated 9/2/94 (to view the date, go to "View" and then "All File Details"). If you have an older file date or have multiple msvideo.dll files, delete them and re-install Video for Windows as described above. Problem: When I click on "New Game", the screen freezes ------------------------------------------------------- You are using either an old video display driver or an old Windows mouse driver. Without upgrading your driver, you can still get into the game by hitting the "Enter" key at that point, instead of using the mouse. Problem: System freezes shortly after playing the 2nd opening video ------------------------------------------------------------------- If your system doesn't have any problems playing the very first opening Microforum demo video but seems to choke on the second credits video, then you need to upgrade your sound card drivers. The older version can't handle the compressed audio for this large video file. Problem: Color Palette shifts/Sensors shifted up or down --------------------------------------------------------- Commonly occur using ATI or Diamond Video cards. Try running in different color depths: you may have success running in the 64K or 16.7 million color depths. (Go to MAIN>>WINDOWS SETUP>>DISPLAY). Upgrade your video driver if the problem remains. Problem: Mmtask \ General Protection Fault errors -------------------------------------------------- 1. Go into MAIN>>CONTROL PANEL>>DRIVERS and select the MCI Video For Windows driver. Click on "setup" and ensure that the "Window" and "Skip video frames if behind" options are checked (selected). 2. Try running in different resolutions. You may have success in the 16.7 million colr mode. (Go to MAIN>>WINDOWS SETUP>>DISPLAY). 3. Go through the re-installation of Maabus, ensuring that all three installation options are checked. 4. Go into MAIN>>CONTROL PANEL>>DRIVERS and select the MCI Video For Windows driver. Click on "setup" and ensure that the "window" and "skip video frames if behind" options are checked (selected). 5. Check the date of your "maabus.exe" file in your maabus directory. If it is dated 2\10\95, then download the upgraded MAABUS.EXE (dated 2\21\95) and SCROLL.FON files from our BBS at (416) 656-0619 under "updates and patches". Copy these files into your "maabus" directory and run the game as usual. 6. If none of the above work, then you can download an upgraded version of the Cinepak Codec driver, used to play video files. This may work on some systems. It is located under the directory \CINEPAK and is called iccvid.drv. 7. Update your video display driver. We have found that 85% of display problems have been fixed by using the latest video driver. GENERAL QUESTIONS ================= Q: Do you have over 100 Consolation / Winner forms yet ? A: Yes.
